Who are we?

Terraxplora is a trademark of Germalo Reisid . Established in 1992 in Tallinn, Germalo Reisid is one of the largest cultural tour operators in the Baltics. On its 30th anniversary, Germalo Reisid joined forces with a new team to introduce the Terraxplora brand: while Germalo Reisid caters to Estonian travellers with a focus on cultural tours, Terraxplora specializes in adventure travel for small groups and welcomes travellers from all over the world.

HOW IT WORKS

From which country can I join the trip?

Since the international flight is not included in the package, you have the freedom to join our tours from any location across the globe!

Is there an age limit to travel with us?

The recommended age range for joining our trips is between 18 and 55. This helps ensure that our travellers are in a similar age group, facilitating easier communication and connection. If you are notably outside this age group but wish to participate in our trips, please get in touch with us at contact@terraxplora.eu prior to booking. In any case, you need to be at least 18 to participate in our trips.

How can I know if my chosen departure date is confirmed?

When the trip status is “Guaranteed”, or “Last Spots”, it means that we have reached the minimum number of participants and the departure is confirmed. Once you have booked your trip on our website and received an email from us confirming that your departure is guaranteed, you can proceed to make your flight arrangements.
If the status is “Early Bird” , it means that the trip is open for bookings, and we are awaiting a few last travellers to register in order to confirm the departure. Upon making your reservation, please do not book your international flight just yet, we will contact you as soon as your adventure is confirmed. What’s included in the trip?

Our tour packages encompass a wide array of components such as accommodation, local transport, diverse activities, immersive experiences, a dedicated tour coordinator, local guides in certain locations, and selected meals. For a detailed breakdown, please refer to the specific trip itinerary.

What’s not included in the package?

Are flights included?

Our tour packages do not include international flights to and from the destination. Unlike traditional package tours, we aim to create groups with participants from different nationalities, allowing our travellers to connect with people from all around the world. We also value the flexibility for you to arrive earlier or extend your trip beyond the tour duration. Once you have received an email confirming that your chosen departure is guaranteed, you can go ahead and book your flight ticket. Make sure you double-check the starting and ending points of your trip! We recommend using flight comparison websites to explore various options and then proceeding to the official website of the chosen airline to make your booking. What does each Trip Status mean?

Early Bird: If the status is “Early Bird,” it means that the trip is open for bookings, and we are awaiting a few more travellers to register in order to confirm the departure. Upon making your reservation, please do not book your international flight just yet, we will contact you as soon as this departure is confirmed.
Guaranteed: When the trip status is “Guaranteed,” it means that we have reached the minimum number of participants. After booking you will receive an email confirming that the departure is confirmed and you will be able to proceed with your flight arrangements.
Last Spots: We have only a few last spots available on the trip so don’t wait too long to secure your spot!
Sold Out: The trip is already fully booked. We recommend choosing an alternative date or contacting us to be added to the waiting list. In the event of any cancellations, our team will promptly reach out to you.

OUR TOURS

How big are our groups?

The average number of travellers for our trips typically ranges from 6 to 10, depending on the specific journey. We prefer to travel in small groups to provide a more intimate and personalised experience for each traveller. During our adventures, it feels more like travelling with friends rather than being part of a tourist group!

What is the language of our tours?

The language of our tours is English unless specified differently in the headline of the tour. However, our tours welcome all nationalities, giving you the possibility to meet like-minded people from all around the world.

Who is the tour coordinator?

Our tour coordinator is an experienced adventurer in your age group, responsible for all the organizational aspects so that you don’t have to worry about anything during the trip and can fully enjoy the adventure. Our tour coordinator will also connect travellers, making everyone feel like they’re going on an adventure with close friends. They will be there for you throughout the trip, from morning until late evening, lead the group everywhere, know the best hidden spots, and help organize activities during free time. On some trips, local guides may also join us at certain points to give us an insight into the local culture or show us the way during the hike.

What type of accommodation are we staying in?

To provide you with a local experience, we make every effort to stay in authentic family-run homestays and small guest houses whenever possible. Our priority lies in seeking out accommodations that radiate charm, authenticity, and positive vibes. When staying in hotels (mostly in big cities), we aim to avoid large chain establishments and always try to add special features like a rooftop pool, for example. Typically, we arrange twin rooms, and occasionally triple rooms, ensuring that they are separated by gender. In certain specific circumstances, such as mountain hikes or sleeper train journeys, we may spend a night in non-mixed dormitories. We always mention this in our programs, and our travellers highly appreciate these experiences as they enhance the immersive and authentic adventure we strive to deliver.

Can I upgrade to a private room?

In most cases, you have the option to upgrade to a private room for an additional cost. Please send your inquiry to contact@terraxplora.eu, and we will provide you with a customised offer. If you are already travelling with a buddy or partner, please reach out to us so that we can arrange for you to be paired in the same room. Please note that these upgrades may not be available in certain locations, such as mountain lodges, sleeper trains or family homestays.

What kind of transportation do we use during our travels?

We prioritise local transportation options such as trains, buses, tuk-tuks, and boats, as they offer our travellers the most authentic local travel experience. We firmly believe that travelling like a real explorer, rather than just being taken from point A to B, is not only more fun but also enables you to immerse yourself in the local culture, interact with locals, and truly experience the destination. However, in destinations where local transportation might be inconvenient or excessively slow, we also use flights, private minivans or buses.

PAYMENTS AND BOOKINGS

When do I need to pay for the trip?

In case you’re booking more than 60 days before the departure, you can choose to pay the full price or just pay a 200€ deposit to secure your spot on the trip. In case you’re just paying a deposit, you will need to pay the remaining amount maximum 60 days before the trip. If you choose the prebooking option, you will receive a secure payment link to pay for the remaining amount. You can also pay the balance by bank transfer.

Can I cancel my trip after I’ve booked?

Yes, you can cancel your trip up to 60 days before the departure date, and we will refund everything you’ve paid, except for the 200€ deposit, which can be transferred to another trip. You can also transfer your funds to another trip. If you need to cancel or reschedule, please reach out to us at contact@terraxplora.eu.

Can I change the dates of my trip?

Yes, you can change your dates (subject to availability) until 60 days before the departure without fees. In case your preferred new date is not available, you can also choose another trip and simply pay the fare difference. If the cost is lower, we’ll refund you the difference

Can I offer a trip to a friend?

Certainly! If you would like to purchase a trip as a gift card, please send an email to contact@terraxplora.eu and we’ll get back to you.

What happens if the trip is not confirmed by TerraXplora?

On rare occasions when the trip does not reach the minimum number of participants and is cancelled by TerraXplora, we will offer you an alternative date. If you choose not to reschedule, we will promptly refund all the costs you have paid us for the trip.

Is my money safe with TerraXplora?

Absolutely. All the packages of Terraxplora/Germalo Reisid are financially safeguarded by Vector Nordic travel guarantee insurance (4M€), in full compliance with the EU Travel Package Directive, ensuring that in the highly unlikely event of the company’s insolvency, all amounts paid for non received services will be fully refunded to the traveller.

PREPARATION

What travel documents do I need to prepare?

1. Book your flight tickets to and from the destination. We recommend using flight comparison websites to explore options and then visit the official website of the chosen airline to make your booking. Make sure your chosen departure is guaranteed before purchasing your flight ticket.
2. Purchase travel insurance (see section “Do I need a travel insurance” for more info) and send it to our email: contact@terraxplora.eu.
3. Verify the visa requirements for your nationality and make necessary preparations for entry. Please note that obtaining the visa is the personal responsibility of the traveller.
4. Ensure that your passport is valid for the required period of time after entering the destination country (typically minimum 6 months) and has at least 2 blank pages for visas and stamps.

Which documents do I need to provide to TerraXplora prior to the departure?

We will need to receive a copy of your passport at least 60 days before the trip or just after your booking in case you’re booking less than 60 days before the departure. It is essential for us to have it in time to finalise all travel arrangements. Additionally, we will require a copy of your travel insurance at least 10 days before the departure. Please send both at contact@terraxplora.eu.

When should I book my flight?

Once you have received an email from us confirming that your departure is guaranteed, you can proceed to arrange your international flight. If your departure has not been confirmed at the time of your booking, please make sure to receive this confirmation from us before booking your flights. Do I need travel insurance?

Yes, travel insurance is mandatory. It is not included in the tour package, so please make sure to get yourself covered for the length of the trip and provide us with a copy of your insurance before the beginning of the tour. The insurance should cover for trip interruption or delay, personal injury, medical expenses, repatriation or evacuation expenses, personal liability and loss of personal property. It is recommended to promptly purchase your travel insurance after booking your trip, covering the total amount of the tour package and flight ticket costs. In such circumstances, you will be eligible for a reimbursement of your expenses in the event you cannot participate in the trip due to illness or other incident.

Do I need to request a visa to the destination country?

The visa is the personal responsibility of the traveller. Please verify the visa requirements or exemptions for your nationality and prepare your entry accordingly. You can handle it independently or get assisted by a visa processing agency. Don’t hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions.

My passport will expire soon, can I still travel?

Please verify the passport validity requirements for the destination country. Typically, the passport should be valid for at least 6 months beyond the entry date, and it should have a minimum of 2 blank pages for visas and stamps. It is the personal responsibility of the traveller to have a valid passport.

When should I arrive at the destination?

For a smooth start to your trip, we recommend arriving at the destination in the afternoon, ensuring you have time to prepare for the welcome dinner typically held around 6pm local time.

What kind of bag should I take with me?

We highly recommend travelling with a backpack as it is more suitable for our type of travel. Suitcases are not practical for the kind of journeys we undertake.

What do I need to pack?

Generally, we suggest packing as light as possible. For our Asia trips, you will need comfortable clothes and walking shoes, clothes that cover shoulders and knees (required for temple visits), swimsuit, mosquito repellent, sunscreen, jacket for cooler evenings in the mountains. We will send a full packing list with our recommended items a few weeks before the trip.

How much spending money will I need?

Your local spending money should cover personal expenses such as meals and drinks (excluding those included in the package), airport transfers, and optional activities. The amount of money you should bring depends on your personal spending habits. However, we would recommend planning to have at least 400 euros in your budget.

Is it necessary to have cash in the local currency?

It is advisable to have local currency on hand when travelling to a new country. We recommend exchanging some money beforehand, as it allows you to have funds available upon landing, particularly in situations where you may need to pay for a visa upon arrival or order a taxi. Additionally, we suggest bringing some US dollars or Euros that can be exchanged for local currency when needed. Please keep in mind that cash is still the primary form of payment in most Asian countries. Some bigger shopping malls accept payments by credit cards, although often apply a surcharge. Most of the cities and popular tourist destinations have ATM’s (usually charging a small percentage on your withdrawal amount), while they may not be available in more rural areas and remote islands.

Can I get in touch with my future travel buddies before the trip?

Absolutely! A few weeks before departure, we will create a WhatsApp group with all the participants, allowing you to exchange valuable tips and even arrange pre-trip meetings if you desire.
